Their choice was seasoned technocrat Thabani Nyawose or former Durban mayor and veteran councillor Zandile Gumede. Gumede, who faces fraud and corruption charges, was successful in her bid to become chairperson of the ANC's largest region after winning the vote against seasoned technocrat, Thabani Nyawose.
