  • MURRAY LOCK & DAM, ARKANSAS - 29 July 2010 - Located in Pulaski county on the Arkansas River the Murray Lock & Dam is one of 18 locks & dams in the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. The McClellan-Kerr System allows for navigation for much of the Arkansas River, which at 1,450 miles is one of the largest tributaries of the Mississippi River. The bridge above the dam was opened in 2006 and is the longest pedestrian/bicycle bridge in North America that has never been used by cars or trucks and spans the river between Little Rock and North Little Rock.   • LITTLE ROCK, AR - 9 July 2010 - A view of Junction Bridge looking towards Little Rock across the Arkansas River from North Little Rock. The bridge has been a part of both cities' skylines for over 100 years since 1884. It was transformed into a pedestrian bridge and opened to the public in 2008. The bridge is believed to be the only "lift span" bridge that has been converted to a pedestrian/bicycle bridge in the United States. The "lift span" is locked into place in a raised position to allow for uninterrupted barge traffic on the river. Visitors to the bridge may transverse the entire length of the structure by riding elevators up to and down from the 360 foot (length) lift span.
